ICODOS and KIT, officially launched the UP-TO-ME technology in the Mannheim wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Renewable electricity and wastewater are being used to produce sustainable marine fuel for the first time.
How does the UP-TO-ME technology work?
The production process is based on the use of biogas from the Mannheim WWTP. Using a patented process, the biogas is purified and the extracted CO2 and the hydrogen, obtained from water electrolysis driven by renewable energy, are converted into methanol. This process not only recycles waste and reduces emissions, but also represents a significant step towards a carbon-neutral future.
