UP-TO-ME Final Meeting and 2nd Innovation Workshop in Valencia (15-16 October 2025)

On 15-16 October 2025, UP-TO-ME project partners gathered in Valencia (Spain) for the final General Assembly and the 2nd Innovation Workshop of the project.

The two-day General Assembly meeting, hosted by Global Omnium Wastewater Innovation Department at the Parc Científic de la Universitat de València, saw consortium partners present key achievements in each work package. Matti Reinikainen, project coordinator from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, highlighted the final stages of the project, and ISLE, leader of project’s dissemination, communication and exploitation (DCE), emphasised the critical role of DCE activities in ensuring long-term impact beyond the project’s October completion.

Facilitated by ISLE, the 2nd Innovation Workshop of the UP-TO-ME project brought together project innovators with valued experts from the methanol sector. The focus of the workshop was on e-methanol utilisation. KIT provided a thorough overview of the UP-TO-ME technology and its automation system, while VTT and AUTH presented the e-methanol quality requirements for marine fuel applications and a comprehensive case study assessment in two wastewater treatment plants in the Aegean islands.

The workshop welcomed eight external participants, including methanol specialists and maritime industry representatives, for in-depth discussions on technical feasibility and future deployment opportunities, gathering invaluable feedback to accelerate market adoption and foster future collaboration.

The meeting included also a visit to one of the wastewater treatment plants managed by Global Omnium, where the consortium partners learned more about biogas purification.
